There would be no need for an engagement ring. No need for a minister or a church. No need for anybody other than our parents and siblings. No need for fancy food and decorations. No need to complicate something that has such a simple purpose, the celebration of love and commitment. Anything that didn’t focus on that was fluff to us.

My sentiments exactly. There’s too much one upmanship these days; people trying spend more (or show that they can spend more) than ‘the Joneses’…Some people forget the real, simple meaning of marriage. Spending vast sums of money on one day doesn’t guarantee a lifetime of love or staying together.
