Welcoming Matt to Arcol
I’m excited to announce another awesome addition to the Arcol team.
Matt has spent the last 10 years working on some of the most interesting products in the CAD space. Having been one of the first hires at nTopology (nTop). He’s also an architect! We’re super excited to have him join our team and build the future of building design.
Here’s a little from Matt:
I’m thrilled to join Arcol as a software engineer and contribute to its mission of revolutionizing the architecture industry through innovative tools. Arcol’s vision aligns perfectly with my deep appreciation for well-designed CAD software and its potential to empower creativity.
While my career has been in software engineering, my academic foundation is actually in architectural design — making this opportunity particularly meaningful. I’ve always been captivated by the intricate forms architects create and the tools that make those possibilities real. Tools like Grasshopper for Rhino, which enable designers to “program” their design logic, have inspired me with their ability to foster iterative, generative, and emergent design approaches beyond what traditional CAD allots. I spent much time with this tool, and like to think of it as my gateway drug into more direct computational programming.
After graduating, I dove straight into the world of CAD development as a founding employee at nTop. There, I gained hands-on experience across the entire spectrum of CAD software development — geometry kernels, rendering pipelines, frontend and backend engineering, and even product design. It was an incredible whirlwind of a journey, and it gave me valuable experience and insight into the challenges of creating a modern CAD software.
Now at Arcol, I’m excited to channel these experiences into a more architecture-focused direction. The challenges and opportunities in this space are uniquely compelling, and I look forward to helping build tools that empower architects to innovate even further.
There’s also something poetic about coming full circle back to the world of architecture!
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, a core part of my thesis for building Arcol is to focus on having a small, lean team that is incredibly talented. We are extremely patient in hiring for Arcol, getting to work with incredible people like Matt is what makes it worth it.
