5 Healthy Coffee Alternatives You’ll Love!

I have to admit, since I’ve been back in Europe, I’ve been enjoying what the culture has to offer. And now that I am in Malta, this includes delicious Italian coffee (Malta is just 90 min boat from Sicily and has very strong Italian influences).

Cappuccinos, Macchiatos, Espressos… I love drinking coffee. I love the taste, I love the smell and I love the effect.

This has definitely something to do with my childhood. I used to wake up with the smell of fresh grounded coffee infusing the house every morning and being back home definitely makes me want to enjoy these things again.

But I also know what coffee does to your body. It’s very acidic, it dehydrates, and basically it’s kind of toxic for your liver and your whole body.

So, I know what’s like to be a health conscious coffee lover…

And even if I am a strong believer that any extremes are bad for us and that we shouldn’t refuse ourselves this little pleasure from time to time, it’s also good to know delicious and healthy alternatives when we want a short break or just to avoid getting over-caffeinated… (good and looong nights of sleep are also my very best friends and I believe a non-negotiable to be and stay at our best).

As you probably know, many toxic products are used to remove caffeine from coffee. This is why I would stay away from decaf at all costs. You might think your doing your health a favor when drinking decaf but it’s actually the opposite!

When you choose coffee, try to go for the organic option. This way, you avoid drinking chemicals and pesticides that are used in big productions.

Also, did you know that cold pressed coffee was up to 25% less caffeinated and up to 67% less acidic than normal, hot brewed coffee? So you might want to give it a try as well.

Whether you want a gentle boost, while avoiding insomnia or just a hot creamy comfy drink while working on the computer or reading your favorite magazine, I’ve got you covered with these great healthy and easy alternatives.

Here are my 5 healthy coffee alternatives you’ll love:

1. Cashew Chai Latte

This one will give you a very gentle boost due to the chai tea but you can also choose caffeine-free chai tea if you prefer. This is super creamy and suitable for vegans.


Just soak 1 handful of raw cashew nuts overnight (or for a few hours) and rinse them carefully.

Infuse about a mug of boiling water with your favourite chai tea.

Blend your cashews, your tea and a pinch of cinnamon and serve. This is delicious!

2. Dandelion Latte

Dandelion is 100% caffeine-free, so you’re not going to have any energy boost after this one. Feel free to enjoy it at night without any issue. On top of that, dandelion has many health benefits, so not only you’re not doing your body any arm but you’re supporting it by drinking this creamy and yummy dandelion latte.


Heat about a mug of your favourite milk and leave a tea bag of roasted dandelion roots infuse in it for a few minutes. Serve and enjoy.

3. Hot Maca Chocolate

This one will not only give you a warm and comfy drink that will give you a gentle boost (due to maca and chocolate) but it’s much healthier than coffee. Maca and chocolate are 2 superfoods that have also many interesting health benefits such as a hormone balancing effect as well as a good dose of antioxidants and minerals.


Carefully heat the desired quantity of your favourite milk to a simmer. Then blend it for a few second with 1 tablespoon of maca and 1 tablespoon of cacao powder. You can also add some cinnamon for a sweeter taste.

4. Hot Chai Chocolate

This one is basically a mix between a chai tea and a hot chocolate. The tea and the chocolate will both increase your energy levels (and eventually boost your mood as well). So, it’s probably better to avoid drinking it before bed time.


Mix about a mug of your favourite milk with 1 tablespoon of cacao powder, a bag of chai tea and some cinnamon. Carefully heat your mixture to a simmer. Then remove your chai tea bag, serve and enjoy!

5. Green Tea Latte

Green tea’s caffeine content is quite low, so you shouldn’t get too excited after enjoying your delicious and creamy green tea latte. On top of that green tea has many health benefits and contains powerful antioxidants that will help you fight the ageing process or even chronic diseases.


Prepare your green tea by infusing it in hot water.

Then heat about a cup of your favourite milk to a simmer. Remove it from the heat and frost your milk until foamy.

In a mug, pour about a shot of green tea and top up with your milk and foam. Enjoy!
