The original ketchup bottle was designed in that manner because materials sciences + mass manufacturing hadn’t matured to the point to allow squeezable plastic as an option.
The experience was NOT DESIGNED: all sauces were applied with a knife and kept in a glass container. It was the baseline standards.
Heinz redesigned its bottle not to “improve user experiences” but to try and force restaurant owners into rebuying heinz ketchup instead of refilling non-branded squeeze bottles. The original design (that you forget to mention) is basically the same as the glass bottle but plastic and squeezable. The upside down version is version 3.
