198 million American voters was left exposed to the internet for 12 days, by NewsWatcher

In what initially seemed to be a huge story yesterday, 198 US voter records were freely available online in an Amazon bucket for 12 days and anyone could download them. The bucket was identified by the researcher Chris Vickery, who by now has an impressive history of finding security misconfigurations like this. The owners of the data were the republican contractors Deep Root Analytics, TargetPoint consulting, Inc. and Data Trust, according to Upguard. Wouldn’t a data set like this would be extremely valuable for targeted advertising in elections?
