A message to the Pencils of Promise Family
Dear PoP Fam,
After two years of dedicated service, Michael Dougherty has decided to step down from his role as CEO of Pencils of Promise beginning August 2017. Michael brought a steadfast commitment to our mission of quality education for every child. We’re grateful for his dedication and that Michael will be an advisor to the Pencils of Promise team as we ensure a thoughtful transition.
To help lead us into Pencils of Promise’s next chapter, our longtime PoP Board Member, Meighan Stone, has stepped in to serve as Executive Chairwoman while we mount a search for our next CEO. Meighan previously served as President of the Malala Fund and in leadership positions with Bono’s ONE Campaign and the United Nations World Food Program. She’s honored — and quite frankly excited — to work alongside our talented, dedicated PoP team globally.
We’re also happy to share that PoP Founder, Adam Braun, will be working closely with Meighan, the leadership team and Country Directors as we continue to impact education for children in Ghana, Guatemala and Laos. It was Adam’s powerful vision that started this journey, and alongside Meighan’s deep experience and our incredible staff, donors and supporters, we know the best is yet to come for PoP.
We’re not slowing down. Together with all of you, we’ve built over 420 schools and right now, impact over 73,000 students every day. We’ve changed the lives and futures of children globally. It started with a pencil and now eight years later, our mission continues, stronger than ever.
We fundamentally believe that a day will come in our lifetimes when every single child will have access to a quality education. Until then, each pencil, each dollar, each supporter is essential.
We’re grateful for you, our PoP Family of donors and partners. We’re looking forward to working together — and empowering children ready to learn and dream around the world.
Many thanks,
Adam & Meighan
