Marry Me

This might be a hackneyed metaphor, but its that for a reason. A start-up founder walks into a bar; meets a VC; then go back to his/hers and start a meaningful relationship, culminating in marriage later that same month. Wouldn’t happen? It does. All the time. I said it as best I can at Capital on Stage in London the other other day:

One point from this that I’ll reiterate is the absolute need to do proper referencing, on both sides. As a VC we do off-list calls and digging all the time, and it just amazes me that start-ups don’t do more of this before choosing their significant other.

So, for better or worse, please look in your partner’s closet before you make the ultimate commitment and sign that Shareholders Agreement!
