Expediting and Van Life: How to Start

There are 2 types of Van Life, the life of a fully outfitted van dweller who is getting their money from heaven knows where, and the second type, the ones sleeping in their van as they travel across the country hauling freight in the back of their van.

There are plenty of articles about how to start your expensive van life, outfitting a van, and starting a blog online in the hopes your followers will pay your bills. This is not about that type of van life, this is about the van life in the United States known as Expediting, or Freight Expediting. In Expediting, you live in a cargo or sprinter van, and you make money by hauling freight across the country. Some companies also send shipments into Canada if you’d like to visit our northern neighbors.

Most Expeditors start as drivers for fleet owners that own 2 or more vans. So, if you’d like to try out this lifestyle, commit to a minimum of 3 to 6 months out on the road driving for someone else to see if you’re cut out for a traveling camper type lifestyle without the expensive investment. This is the same lifestyle as over the road (OTR) truckers in those huge semi-trucks, but with less regulations, supervision, and less difficulty of finding parking spaces.

Semi-truck drivers make more money, but they also have higher expenses for gas, repairs, taxes, and fees. As a short…
