The Brexit announces a new period, a new era

The History will remember the Brexit as the day we started wondering if we needed frontiers, and what they meant to us. It will remain the symbol of a spark, the messenger of a revolution.

Think about it, because it is time for you to decide what a better world is like.

What is a frontier ?

We know what it meant in the past, when men and women were not free, and their kings were fighting for more land. We know what it mean later-on, even during the Cold War, when it was the symbol of a bloc. But what does it mean today ?

There is no point discussing the link between countries and nations, because we all know that, even after years of stability, very few countries actually match the territory of a single, homogeneous nation.

What is a frontier today ?

In Europe, and in the US, the question turns out to have two levels. First, people belong to a country, and then to a union (the US or the Euro zone, for example). For both, the implications are mostly legal : belonging to Italy means being ruled by its constitution, its laws and European ones.

But what is its true meaning ? I mean, how can such a weak difference divide us so much ?

The Brexit asks the right question

The Brexit is a bomb. Instantly, people in Europe have started wondering. Some of them believe they are stronger as an independent country. Others believe in standing united.

Suddenly, people talk about frontiers. I believe this debate will have a dramatic impact on our future. Three ways can emerge :

  • A fragmented world, with many small countries
  • A world of blocs, with the US, Russia, the Euro zone, China and a few other blocs standing united, competing with one another.
  • A fully united world, with only one country

The implications of these three options are many, and I strongly doubt I can tell you which one is the best. But it is worth thinking about it.

Which one has your preference ?
