The Silent Hike

We hiked in silence. Words were not necessary.

My teenaged son and I went on a hike. A long hike, up a mountain, through forests, across a stream.

We didn’t talk much. We didn’t need to. We were surrounded by tall trees, jutting cliffs, and a swift river below. The nature that enveloped us. Words weren’t needed.

Once at the top of this giant rock, we looked at each other and smiled. We looked at the views. Wow.

“Ready to head back down?”

“Yeah.”

Once back in the car, we talked the whole way home.
