First of all, I really enjoyed this. More, please.

Here are a few things that would have made this article better for me.

  1. What city was it? It doesn’t matter, but this question was a distraction while reading it. This should have been in the first paragraph.
  2. The triangles point either left or right. But if I read the chart correctly, they all point in the opposite direction from the one the train is traveling. Tufte would not approve! This should be a pretty easy fix.
  3. What was the result? You calculated it was PV46. Then what? Were you right? What was the underlying problem? Was it solved? Can you quantify the resulting benefit? From a story perspective this article leaves out the most important part.

Anyway an interesting look at a complex problem.
