First of all, I really enjoyed this. More, please.
Here are a few things that would have made this article better for me.
- What city was it? It doesn’t matter, but this question was a distraction while reading it. This should have been in the first paragraph.
- The triangles point either left or right. But if I read the chart correctly, they all point in the opposite direction from the one the train is traveling. Tufte would not approve! This should be a pretty easy fix.
- What was the result? You calculated it was PV46. Then what? Were you right? What was the underlying problem? Was it solved? Can you quantify the resulting benefit? From a story perspective this article leaves out the most important part.
Anyway an interesting look at a complex problem.
