Welcoming Daniel Kuehl, Petuum’s New VP of Operations
At Petuum, we pride ourselves on hiring the brightest and hardest working people in AI and Systems. Our team members have contributed groundbreaking achievements to the field as we work towards putting practical, simple-to-use AI into the hands of every organization that needs it. Under CEO Eric Xing, Associate Head of the Machine Learning Department and Professor at Carnegie Mellon University, the Petuum team will continue to make unparalleled progress that attracts top talent.
We are pleased to announce today the addition of another exceptional team member, Daniel Kuehl, who will be joining us as VP of Operations. In this role, Daniel will be responsible for operation activities in our Pittsburgh office, including overseeing People Management, Facilities, IT, Resources, Admin, and inter-division coordination.
“Petuum is working on cutting-edge technology in AI and ML, an area of rapid growth and innovation. I am ready to get to work alongside Petuum’s dynamic executive team to help bring AI into more walks of life,” said Daniel Kuehl. “I’m confident the work Petuum is doing can help a lot of people, so it’s an exciting opportunity to be a part of.”
Daniel approaches operations as the ultimate support system — his goal is to implement infrastructure smoothly, efficiently, and unobtrusively so that Petuum’s technical minds can focus on what they do best. He enjoys keeping people happy and building up company momentum by eliminating any operational nuisances the team might face. Like the rest of our team, he shares a passion for solving exciting new problems, and he tackles everything with unruffled composure.
“He is a tremendous addition to the Petuum team,” said Eric Xing, CEO of Petuum. “Daniel has experience with ops at startups, but it’s his character, more than his experience, that makes him a truly great fit for Petuum: He is a hard-working, hands-on, and get-it-done kind of person. That’s the type of attitude we look for and rely on to achieve new heights.”
Daniel’s background is in law — he’s studied in Germany and Spain and has also practiced in Australia. He has performed various roles at E.ON from 2010–2017, most recently serving as Head of Regional Unit Procurement North America and Emerging Regions, managing three teams to source all technical components and services needed to develop, build, and sell utility-scale solar, wind, and storage power plants.
Daniel is a Fellow of the UK’s Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (FCIPS), holds an MBA from the University of Manchester, and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) by the Project Management Institute. Daniel speaks English, German, and Spanish.
Outside of work, Daniel likes to spend as much time outdoors as possible. He enjoys hiking, biking, and running, and often takes weekend trips to explore new scenery. After spending five years on the West Coast in San Francisco, Daniel is excited to become familiar with the East Coast and scout out some new favorite sites for outdoor activities near Pittsburgh.
