Shitty Days

a lamentation
The day started well enough, then it capitulated in the graceful way unfortunate days do.
A tiny thread drawn away from the tapestry at the most inopportune moment and the whole thing unravels.
Faster than an eye blink, a day tending towards norm, springs leaks at crucial places and plunges into the deep.
Previously structured plans gleefully dance as they unravel into chaos.
A prolonged sigh when the worst is over as the total extent of misfortune begins to reveal itself:
Like a shy maiden at the cusp of her decision; gently, slowly, then all at once.
The coping mechanism, different for each soul.
Alcohol soothes, as do tears; good company, barbiturates.
Some seek people, some push people away.
A new day comes and each faces life again: ‘today will be better’.
A few don’t care though, they’ve said: sod it all, their watch is ended.
