thoughts on: being lazy

I’m lying on my couch, eating popcorn from a bowl; watching one of my favorite TV shows. At that moment, I’m at peace; all is right with the world.

As usual, life being what she is; (your thoughts not mine), decides to test me a bit. Rain starts to fall. The increased noise level means the TV volume needs a little adjustment. I smile. Life has to try a bit harder, remotes have been invented.

She does; the remote lies at my feet.

The proper way to get it is to sit up and reach for it. I rejected the thought at once; too stressful. I would have to drop my bowl of popcorn, sit up, adjust, reach for the remote, grab it and then lie down, pick up popcorn bowl, settle into comfort zone, adjust the volume and then continue with my show. See how stressful it was to read that? Imagine if I had done it.

There had to be a better way; light bulb! The remote is very slender, it’d fit between my big toe and the next one very easily! No stress at all, a little yes; but negligible!

Off I sent my foot, coordinating the required toes nicely; it took some tries but the toes had remote between them; right then, onward! The foot came up, the hand reached out to grab the remote… MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! Volume up, comfort zone; happy me.

Upon reflection, I learned two things that day:

One, I needed to clean in-between my toes and two, laziness is the not the dreaded evil people say it is, in fact most of the technology we have are from the need to find an easier way to do things. So, hats off to the lazy ones out there, you might just be the next innovator.
