I wrote this as a response further down, but given the number of people taking issue with it, it should probably be a standalone comment: “Tannie” is apparently an Afrikaans word literally meaning “aunt”, commonly used as a moderately respectful term for any older woman. Many languages use words like “auntie” and “grandmother” this way.

It’s a poor word choice for a non-Afrikaans audience, but it’s not about race or skin color.
