This year, Twitter logged over 200 Billion tweets from a global user base who ensconce their thoughts, opinions and ideas in 280 characters or less.

Twitter is the second largest social media platform of the internet with 321 million registered users, dwarfed only by Facebook which boasts a mind boggling 2.38 billion users. However, the micro-blogging site sees the fastest engagement, with some posts going viral in mere minutes. Twitter users report the news to the world before… well, even before the media manages to report it, much thanks to phone cameras and easy access to the publish button.

2019 has seen million of memes enter the Twitter-sphere, with Giphy awarding Drag Queen Superstar Jasmine Masters their annual award for having the most shared gif of the year. Masters shot to internet icon with her hilarious- and perfectly suitable reaction for every occasion, called “And I Oop!

Twitter saw many user break the internet with hilarious, thought provoking or just plain weird tweet. Starting off 2019, last January, user YouSuck2020 had apparently already prophesied the year to come and gave us the most viral tweet of the year with over 4 million retweets and 1 million likes.

Not far behind was an egg. An egg. That’s it. That’s the tweet.

At half a million likes and creeping up a million retweets, the Egg, which set out to break the aforementioned record has only a week to reach their goal.

While twitter can be noisy, crazy, inspiring, fascination, funny, ridiculous terrifying and enraging, one thing is for certain; People love it.

In searching for the best Tweet of 2019, we sought out a tweet that captivated, entertained, made the world seem a little smaller, and represented the greatness of Twitter itself and its potential.

I am pleased to announce the Best Tweet of 2019 goes to none other than Netflix, whose social media operator deserves a raise after casually asking this unexpected question to their 7 million followers on a cold, but otherwise average, Thursday afternoon;

Initially, people joked, wondering if the account had been hacked. Others were surprised and exclaimed “What Is Happening??”

And then it got really interesting when some of the worlds most familiar brand names began to respond from their official accounts to shocking and hilarious effect. And then came the celebrities, airlines, game developers, movie studios, fast food restaurants, candy bar companies and even State Governments (We see you New Jersey!)

With Netflix often responding to each one, it became a viral thread charged with knee-slapping, sometimes downright filthy sexual innuendo from the most unexpected places and quoted around every workplace water cooler the next day. You’ll never eat a Snickers the same way again.

Hulu even chimed in to give us a cackle.

G-d Dammitt, Petco!

Even some good things were coming out of this demonstration of brand solidarity.
