Dr. Northam, I’m curious, you say that you are going to consult the private sector to make sure quality education is available to all our children. Sir, what does the private sector have anything to do with public education? We should have adequate tax dollars to fund public education if we are taxing “the private sector” and the very wealthiest Virginians adequately, yet you have to go to big business for help outside of their duly owed tax dollars?

There is something seriously wrong with a plan that relies on the dubious generosity of for-profit corporations in order to adequately educate its citizens. I would much prefer to see a plan that raises taxes on our corporate denizens, millionaires and billionaires in VA so that we don’t need to consult them for anything as pertains to the quality education of our children. I don’t want my child’s education branded with a Microsoft or Google or any other corporate logo. I want it to be the product of the values of the citizens of Virginia, whether they are profitable for corporate interests or not. (In fact, preferably not.)

This is a weakness, sir, in your campaign. I sincerely hope you will address it because the working people of Virginia are rarely heard amidst the money-counting machines in our politicians’ offices.
