Phillip Thomas Tucker earned his Ph.D. at St. Louis University where he studied all aspects of history. After earning three degrees in American history, Phillip Thomas Tucker, Ph.D., spent more than 20 years with the Department of Defense as a professional historian. He has also written extensively about American history with a focus on women in combat and different wars, including the American Revolution. Dr. Tucker has repeatedly overturned some of the oldest prevailing myths of American history, while breaking new boundaries in the historical record.

While Alexander Hamilton’s most noted role in the American Revolution was as George Washington’s secretary and aide de camp since early 1777, he was never pleased with being a staff officer and preferred to serve as a field commander. As an immigrant from a poor family in the West Indies, Hamilton saw the war as an opportunity to advance his station and was interested, if not obsessed, in achieving personal glory. In 1781, General Washington acceded to Hamilton’s requests and made him the commander of a light infantry battalion under Marquis de Lafayette, as part of the assault on British Redoubt №10 at Yorktown. …
