Like you I also spent 4 years in university learning a lot of theory, but in the real world much of it didn’t work and had to learn some very painful experiences. One thing that university never taught me is that maths is precise and people are not. On a spreadsheet all will look good, but when you have to start trusting people, there is where the wheels generally come off. People cannot keep to their words, or they will lie for expediency or simply just let you down without giving a second after-thought to the damage they have caused. I always believed in doing things with integrity and keeping to your word, but not everyone else shares the same ethos. But your article was inspiring nevertheless; enjoyed reading it.
