I too have “Seen behind the curtain”. I know about the vast wasteland that exists between what is preached and what is practised.
While I am not a disciple of Friedrich Nietzsche, who declared in 1982 that “God is dead”. He proclaimed , God is dead because we killed him. I wouldn’t go that far, I will say that I find no evidence of a “Living God” in any organized religious institution I have examined. While I have not explored all faiths, but speaking as a Christian; It all looks good from the pew, but dig a little deeper and you will find a double standard that is simply inconsistent with Christian ethics. That is, in my opinion why congregations are shrinking, why churches are closing and why more and more people identify themselves a “Spiritual but not religious”. I believe there are a lot of ways to live a good life and practice sound christian (or Jewish, or Muslim, or hindu) or any other value system outside the brick and mortar of an institution.
With all due respect to faithful church goers, I don’t mean to disparage but to share the painful truth I have discovered. If you go to church and it works for you, please don’t stop. But whatever you do DON’T LOOK BEHIND THE CURTAIN!
