Driverless Valets? Well, Okay.

Finding a place to park your car is certainly one of the most uninteresting element of driving. True. So, before driverless vehicles come into the fray, it makes so much sense to automate the more cumbersome tasks associated with it. Now, the best place to start is the parking garage, according to Daimler and Bosch’s concept of ‘Automated Valet Parking’, which will help guide cars to and from available parking spaces. This is another way in which automobile autonomy can make huge differences in the future smart cities. While automation of parking spaces will benefit the customers in a number of ways, it does have a downside for valets. As it seems, valets must be the first ones to lose their jobs due to driverless systems.

The idea seems all the more appealing when we think about the relatively low investment required. Retrofitting existing structures with sensors might cost some money, but it still less expensive than building newer buildings. Also, it seems like a good thought to test autonomous systems in a controlled setting before jumping on to open roads. However, there might be quite a few challenges in a full scale operations. Safety issues have always been closely knit with the autonomous driving, and with no absolutely no humans in the car, it can be quite a task to take care of it. Of course, adequate regulation from governmental bodies will be crucial in advancement of such techniques.

Driverless parking appears to be equally significant to parking garage operators, as it would mean more efficient use of parking spaces. Drivers also, will be able to save fuel by not wandering around to find the perfect parking spot. All of this is still to be proved, in case it goes well, parking your case will be a piece of cake for you.
