Google Glass — Coming back from a setback
The time has come. One of Google’s biggest fails is all set to make a return. Dubbed as the Glass Enterprise Edition, the resurgence of Glass is will see it making its way into factories and warehouses instead of dealing with everyday tasks. This two year gap has turned the Glass into a business tool and is sporting improvements such as extension of battery life, faster WiFi and processor and an upgrade of the camera. But the biggest difference is undoubtedly its ability to mount onto any existing pair of glasses, like safety goggles. In that way, users do not have to worry about aligning the work that they are doing with their hands and the content they are seeing on the device.
The move comes when competitors such as Microsoft and Apple are stepping into the world of Augmented Reality. With the enterprise edition, the Glass has already made its way into the workplaces of many giants including agricultural manufacturing company AGCO, shipping giant DHL and California health system Dignity Health. To utilize its potential Glass would have to expand its reach across various industries and verticals, partnering with traditional incumbents along the way. Who knows, a successful sprint in the enterprise might make way for a consumer edition as well.
