Why Janna is a highly contested, strong pick | Day 2/30
Janna has always been a top tier support and will continue to be. In patch 7.17 there were nerfs to Janna’s core item build that has made her, and her fellow peel supports less strong but still viable. Ardent censer was nerfed to give less attack speed and health buffs. Why is Janna always going to be a strong pick?
Gold Coin
Gold coin is currently the strongest starting item for supports, and it is by far the best starting item for Janna. Gold coin grants lots of gold and mana for her in the laning phase which allows her to get her items quicker and also allows her to shield her allies more often. I like to upgrade her ancient coin into a normad’s medallion as soon as possible too, this is because the extra income and increased drop value makes you rich quick! The gold coin is very strong compared to the other starting items.
Gold Digger Janna
Currently, running gold generation runes are the best way to get free gold. Aardent censer is so strong- even with nerfs in 7.17, you need to get it as soon as possible. You are granted 5 gold every 10 seconds which is really efficient. The only downside to this page is that you don’t have many defensive stats, so it’s best to take this greedy page when you’re in an easy peel lane. Using this page in conjunction of early coin upgrade will make you a gold digger and you will be- Swimming in gold.
Her Kit
Janna is really simple to play and her kit is very basic. This means she is easy to play and can help you climb as she doesn’t require the skill or dedication compared to other champions such as Thresh or Rakan. Her main job is to peel for her carries and protect them from the enemy. Janna can do this well with her Q W E and R! All her abilities are good at protecting her carries and herself.
Difficulty
Like I said above, Janna is very simple to play. Even if you’re bronze you can perform well with Janna. Often Janna has a high pick rate with auto filled players because she is simple to understand and play. However even though Janna may be mechanically simple she isn’t free elo! The mind of the player plays a huge part of it and understanding the support role in itself is what makes her harder to play.
Overall I really enjoy Janna and love to see her being played more, unfortunately, she is constantly banned in Mid Diamond and I am not getting to play her anymore.
