After 12 years on OS X I have for the last 2 months been running different distros on my MacBook pro 9.2. I finally settled on Antergos (a slightly easier to install arch Linux.) with an xfce desktop. I’m not experiencing any major problems except for the occasional freeze (every 5 days or so) which is probably more due the fact that I have an ssd in the Mbp Have had the Same problem under OS X for a while.
As I’m a pro photographer the hurdle was sbit steeper because there is no Adobe on Linux. But there are good alternatives although with a steep learning curve.
Anyway I’m happy with the choice I made and also happy to see that I’m not alone in switching away from OS X
