PABLO EGGS-GO-BAR
Melville

What would Joburg be without Pablo Eggs-Go-Bar?
Situated on the corner of 7th Street and 1st Avenue, in the très trendy area of Melville, this institution is a true ode to the egg! The menu is a unique mix of delicious breakfasts (served all day might I add) that all contain egg in some shape or form — with a subtle Middle Eastern twist.
I am convinced that the 25 minute wait for a table on a weekend morning is owed to the energy that Pablo Eggs-Go-Bar cultivates. This breakfast-spot-meets-cocktail-bar seems to attract the hippest folk Jozi has to offer — and certainly lends itself to 4-hour long boozy brunches on a Sunday.
There’s nothing I wouldn’t recommend on the menu but I would certainly give the green shakshukka (served with the most moreish yemeni flatbread you’ve ever tasted) and the Famous Fries with truffle oil and parmesan the nod of approval — it’s almost impossible to not completely overeat here! Every dish is served creatively and beautifully, with an added touch of excellence; handful of fresh coriander or a pansy atop beautifully sauteed leeks.
Urban Grind and the fantastic barristers are responsible for the world-class coffees served. Coffee is taken seriously at Pablos — and is seriously good! If you’re willing to try something a little different, try the Dirty Espresso.
The service is quick (despite the chaos on weekends), professional and helpful. Having worked in the service industry myself, I know firsthand how difficult it is to keep a cheery disposition amid a sea of hungry patrons — but the lovely staff seem to do it with ease!
The decor is a mix of old meets new; classic pressed ceilings, a quirky Art Deco-esque flair, steel and wood furniture, plants hanging from the ceiling and plenty filament lightbulbs.
Pablo Eggs-Go-Bar is open 6:30AM — 4PM (3PM on Sunday and Monday). Bookings are only taken after 12pm on weekends.
