Greetings, citizens! Today is Groundhog Day, celebrating an annual tradition in the US and Canada. On this day, a large furry rodent emerges from its burrow and, as the tradition goes, if it sees its shadow, it will retreat to its den and winter will go on for six more weeks. If, however, it does not see its shadow, spring will supposedly arrive early. While this tradition remains popular on Earth, studies have found no consistent association between a groundhog seeing its shadow and the subsequent arrival time of spring-like weather. Due to the lack of groundhogs on Planet Atmos, and the aforementioned evidence of tomfoolery, we simply wish you a happy Friday. Let’s take a look at this week on Planet Atmos.

Industry News

In industry news, Blizzard Entertainment has partnered with ESL FACEIT Group to establish the Overwatch Champions Series (OWCS) on Overwatch Esports. Following the surprising closure of the Overwatch League last year, the OWCS aims to offer a more traditional, globally accessible format compared to the previous franchise-based model. The series will include open qualifiers and tournaments in North America, EMEA, and Asia. Two major tournaments are scheduled for 2024, taking place at DreamHack Dallas Major and DreamHack Stockholm, showcasing the top eight OWCS teams worldwide. This shift signifies a more international focus for Overwatch esports, with FACEIT providing a platform for aspiring players and supporting third-party competitions.
