Cisco partners with Plug and Play to develop a Smart City in Guangzhou

Guangzhou, China, April 24, 2018 — Cisco and Plug and Play signed a strategic cooperation agreement on the Cisco Smart City project in Panyu district, Guangzhou. Plug and Play, a global innovation platform, will utilize its global ecosystem across multiple industries to contribute to the construction of Cisco Smart City in Guangzhou by introducing international and high-end innovation resources.

Plug and Play China Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Board Dr. Shawn Chen, President and Managing Partner of Plug and Play China Peter Xu, Chairman of Cisco Greater China Owen Chan, District Mayor of Guangzhou Panyu district Dejun Chen, and Chief Strategy Officer of Country Garden Lin Zhaoxian attended the signing ceremony.

The partnership can be traced back to August 2017 when the “Panyu and Silicon Valley: Cisco (Guangzhou) Smart City Conference,” was held together by Plug and Play, Cisco, and the government of Guangzhou Panyu District at Plug and Play’s headquarters in Silicon Valley.

The City Innovation program of Plug and Play China connects governmental institutions and high-tech parks in major cities across China including Wuhan, Nanjing, Hefei, and Guangzhou with leading startups, corporate partners, and investors to set up innovation ecosystems. Plug and Play China cooperates with cities to host cross-border summits and fill innovation centers to fuel local innovations.

Cisco Smart City (Guangzhou) is a systematic and complicated project. Based on three pillars — Intelligence, Business, Residence — the Smart City aims to become an ecosystem that combines production, academics, research, business, and residence. A key player in the project, Plug and Play will support the development of Cisco Smart City and provide leading technology solutions selected from outstanding startups around the world to boost innovation in the Smart City.

Moreover, Plug and Play will introduce different business segments under the Amidi Group including Plug and Play Tech Center, Hollywood Production Center, and TENTEN to assist startups’ growth, enhance technology development in local creative industry, and construct an international community for entrepreneurs to Live, Work, and Play.
