How to Get Read on Medium (As Told by Someone Who Doesn’t)

  1. Adopt controversial opinions not your own.
  2. Create a fake account and start arguments with yourself in the comment section. Make sure the fake account is 1) simple-minded and ill-informed so that you can easily best them in an intellectual duel, and 2) highly abusive, so as to create sympathy for yourself.
  3. Write a bitter, impassioned article about how no one ever reads/recommends your writing.
  4. Write an article about “How to Get Read on Medium”. Hope that no one notices you have fewer followers than appendages.
  5. Use hash tags that have nothing to do with what you’ve written to trick people into clicking on your article. Once they are there, tactic #2 or #3 should do the trick.
  6. Swear a lot, and write in caps it when you do. I don’t know why this would work but judging from the most-read stories on Medium, it seems to.
  7. Star Wars. Anything Star Wars. Heck, even I’ll read it.
