Daily Detritus

It’s snowing here today, and so my break walk was shortened a bit. It’s actually really pretty; wet, fat, snow that clings to everything it touches, including the few people out and about. I’d have liked to taken more pictures, but the iPhone freezes up (no pun intended) at the slightest hint of cold, and shuts itself off.

One fellow was coming in the opposite direction as I was stopped, looking up and taking pictures. He smiled, and said he, too, had stopped a few minutes before to take some snaps and a selfie.
I don’t care what anybody says, he told me. It looks nice! It does, I agreed, and we wished each other a good day.

Those small interactions give me such happiness. Strangers, passing on the street, fleeting moments shared. It is a big and cold and often mean world, but just acknowledging each others’ existences makes it all feel a bit smaller. And something as simple as a few exchanged words with another being somehow keeps me grounded and connected. We are all in this together.

Happy Friday, all. Be well. Life. Is. Beautiful.
