In July 2011, PolitiFact gave a Half True rating to this claim, then said by AOL co-founder Steve Case. The figure was part of a 2011 report by Partnership for a New American Economy, a bipartisan group of business leaders and mayors favoring immigration reform.

The report included: companies that were spin-offs of others founded by immigrants, companies with dominance that can be attributed to recent leaders, not their founders, children with one parent who was an immigrant and another born in the United States.
