Communication failure in Punjab Congress

“There seems to a complete anarchy in Punjab state unit of Congress and problems for the party have increased manifold after Captain Amarinder Singh bema the state chief. Functioning in an autocratic manner, communication channels between Congress state chief and party cadre seem to have completely shut.”

Ahead of assembly polls in Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh left no stone unturned to ensure that former state Chief Partap Singh Bajwa is removed from the post. He even went to the extent of threatening party high command of leaving the party if Bajwa was not removed.

Much against the wished of Rahul Gandhi, Congress President Sonia Gandhi had to give up in front of Captain’s unreasonable demand. It must be noted that Bajwa was made state chief with the backing Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi and this move also signaled the growing differences within the Congress party.

Incommunicado state leadership

Senior Congress leader and former speaker, Bir Davinder Singh has gone one record to state about communication failure between state chief and party cadre.

He stated, “if you wish to speak to him on phone, you will have to go through so many channels operating around him, and even then the chances of success are remote.” One wonders how the Congress will put up a brave fight in the ensuing victory in the upcoming Punjab assembly elections if the state party president always remains ‘incommunicado’ with party workers, question Bir Davinder.

The much-hyped campaign committee headed by one of the biggest Congress leaders, Ambika Soni, has failed to make an impression and it has been a non-starter, rather nonexistent. In the absence of a complete cohesion among senior leaders of the party, reports of fissures among the party workers and senior leadership is brewing up in media.
