Who Killed the Victims of the Ft. Lauderdale Airport Shooting?
In 1964, Bob Dylan performed a folk song called “Who Killed Davey Moore”. The song is only featured in bootleg recordings, never on an album.
The song is about Davey Moore, a boxer from 1953 to 1963. At 5 feet 2, he was known as “The Little Giant”. He won the World Featherweight Title from Hogan Bassey and kept it for four years, until Cuban Sugar Ramos knocked him down. After being interviewed, he complained of headaches, went to a hospital and died there a few weeks later.
The song asks who killed him. It puts blame on Sugar, Davey Moore’s manager, the referee, the newspapers, and the audience. Who killed Davey Moore?
I have been thinking about that song, since a gunman shot up my Fort Lauderdale airport, killing five and injuring more. Republicans will tell you straight up, the gunman killed them. Throw the cuffs around this deeply unstable shooter. If he is lucky enough not to be executed, he will sit in a prison for the rest of his life.
Any deeply deranged individual could get a gun in America. If he lived anywhere else in the entire world, he probably would not be in jail. Those five people would undoubtedly be alive. They’d be sitting on the deck of their cruise ship, admiring a cloudless sky, thinking to themselves how nice it is to be alive.
Instead, they are dead.
Sure, the shooter pulled the trigger, but that gun was placed in his hand by someone else. I think we could agree that whoever placed a gun in the hands of an insane person is the real killer.
Was it Donald Trump, who wants absolutely no limits on guns?
Was it Republican politicians, who viciously defend the right to carry arms?

In England, police officers don’t even carry guns. No where else in the entire world are guns so readily available. And why? They say, cause we have the right to defend ourselves.
If that is the case, you’d figure there would be so many examples of guns being used in self defense. However, the amount of accidental and homicide gun deaths compared to self defense gun deaths is astronomical.
Those 259 justifiable homicides also pale compared with, in the same year, 8,342 criminal homicides using guns, 20,666 suicides with guns, and 548 fatal unintentional shootings, according to the FBI’s Supplemental Homicide Report. The ratio for 2012, per the Violence Policy Center, was one justifiable killing for every 32 murders, suicides or accidental deaths (the ratio increases to 38–1 over the five-year period ending in 2012).
