The Greatest
Muhammed Ali died today. I have a poster of the Thrilla in Manila stuck to my wall. I’ve watched several documentaries and movies on him, I don’t have many sporting idols but Ali was one of them. I didn’t grow up watching his fights or his interviews, he will stand at the forefront of American athletes for his skill and his persona. He was quick witted and fleet of foot and he stood for something. I don’t really care for the rumours that the Nation of Islam were behind his political views. What was fucked up was what he did to Frazier, I do understand that it was all about getting to your opponents mind, but it does seem like it affected Frazier on a level beyond that of mere trashtalk. Frazier was still bitter about it to the end.
Ali embodied an ideal, from the streets to the top of the world, he will be the Greatest of All Time.
