User-centered design approach

Building a DeFi product has been a great challenge for us in terms of technology and coding but since the early stages of the design a fundamental point has been to create a user-centered approach to design. One of the biggest current problems of defi products is the achievement of mass adoption. Many dApps use too technical a tone of voice and a distant ux approach for beginner users.

To fill this gap we have thought of a concept that can be close to users, focused on the target of millennials who are currently the main target groups interested in this world.

The Potion concept uses the common metaphor of fantasy worlds to communicate complex concepts such as put options, premiums and liquidations.

What better metaphor than a healing potion to be able to explain an insurance on one’s assets?

Potion is an example of storytelling for different types of users. As Steve Kurg argued in terms of usability, if a product is easy to understand for inexperienced users, it does not mean that it will penalize the experience of the expert ones but will help them in case of technical forgetfulness.

In the UX / UI design we thought of creating linear and assisted flows to guide users in carrying out their actions. The user interacts through a single box that allows the complete use of the product, while the modal flows concentrate the user on the steps to be completed to complete his mission.

We gave great attention to the UI in designing a minimal and aesthetic product that can meet the heuristic evaluation dictated by the Nielsen Norman Group respecting the criteria of:

  • visibility of system status
  • consistency and standard
  • efficiency of use.

Although we have tried to satisfy the major heuristic points, there are certainly aspects to improve that we have identified as:

  • error prevention
  • help and documentation
  • diagnose and recover from errors

These points will be fundamental in facilitating user experiences and improving product efficiency as it will be important to make usability tests to identify weak points of our product.
