American Savings Bank, our sister company, hosts an annual fundraiser event to introduce people in Hawaii to the sport of curling and raise money for local nonprofits. Over the past five years, American Savings Bank has raised more than $460,000 for Hawaii nonprofits through their curling fundraiser. This year, the 5th Annual Hawaii Curling Club Fundraiser event was held on Oct. 5, 2017, at the Ice Palace.

Hawaiian Electric sponsored a team to participate in the curling event and faced off with other local companies to help raise $100,000 for this year’s beneficiary, Child & Family Service (CFS). One of Hawaii’s largest nonprofits, CFS is committed to helping local families address life’s most serious issues — including trauma, abuse and neglect. CFS programs equip families with the skills to improve their current situation and build toward a better future.

The annual curling fundraiser event is popular and hosts a free curling clinic to those that attend. Last year, two former Olympic curlers, Debbie McCormick and Shawn Rojeski, attended the fundraiser and shared their experiences with attendees.

Alongside other businesses and organizations, we helped to collectively raise $100,000 for CFS this year.

Although Team “Electric Sliders” was not able to take home the gold this year, everyone enjoyed themselves and was happy to place in the top three, helping to collectively raise $100,000 for CFS. Hawaiian Electric’s Electric Sliders vow that they will be back next year to regain their gold status from 2016.

After all, a little competition doesn’t hurt when you’re raising money for a good cause!
