New features on tap for Hawaiian Electric Mobile app

Launched in July 2017, our free Hawaiian Electric Mobile App made it easier for customers to quickly view and report outages using their smartphones. This year, we’re adding new features, including one that allows customers to view their bills.

In the past year we have had over 10,000 downloads on iPhone and over 4,000 on android.

The beauty of our design for the app is the ability to add features to the app piece by piece — and it has always been our intention to roll out new features as we finish development. During this past year, we have been working hard on some great new features that our customers have been anticipating.

In this next release we have focused on making it fast and easy for Hawaiian Electric, Maui Electric and Hawaii Electric Light customers to sign up for and access their online account. This makes it quick and simple to view your bill, update payment settings; start, stop or move; and make a payment. We have also expanded our notifications features and settings, allowing users to sign up for push notifications to track a specific outage as well as toggle their notifications on and off more easily. Finally, we have added a new interactive map for our company EV fast chargers. You can easily find a fast charger close to you and receive information about the charger type and location. Step-by-step driving instructions are also available to get your electric vehicle there quickly!

Online Account Features

The most important new feature for the mobile app integrates the functionality of our Online Customer Service Center. You can now view your bill and monthly usage, update your payment options; start, stop or move service; and make a payment with a credit card through Western Union. These features allow you to manage your electric account using your phone.

Other features from the Online Customer Service Center can also be accessed through the local menu, such as updating contact information, paperless billing options, and customer support.

Notifications for Specific Outages on Oahu

Did the lights just go out in your neighborhood? First step is to get on the mobile app and check out our outage map for information. Once you find your outage and expand the pin to see the additional information, you now have the option to select “Notify me with updates.” This selection will send a push alert to your phone whenever there is new information from our crews regarding the cause and estimated time of restoration. This new feature gives Hawaiian Electric customers the most up-to-date information about your specific incident.

EV Charging Locations Map

For those who drive an electric vehicle, this map feature will help to ease your range anxiety. Our EV charging locations map will help you find the closest Hawaiian Electric DC fast charger and provides you with the fastest route and step-by-step driving instructions. Also included are images of the fast chargers, pricing, payment options, types of charging standards, number of ports, and directions on how to find the exact location of the charger when you arrive.
