#LetGoToJustRemain

This weekend pic against a bottlebrush tree in the garden in my Patna parental home triggered me to reflect quite deeply. This tree and I grew up together over all these years. And I drifted even as it seemed it stayed still.
And as I see its bark crack & a new one emerge, I see how important it is to shed ourselves to renew ourselves. The same bark protected it as it grew over the years. Loyalty and Responsibility? And yet it must part. To help the tree renew and stay strong. Selfish and irresponsible?
Myths about loyalty being measured in tenure is convenient, but not always accurate. At a certain point, we all need to reinvent ourselves. We need to discard habits, practices and talent that helped us get thus far. Is that being selfish? If we don’t help ourselves to renew we will decay. Will that not be unfair to the legacy? We must give up parts of ourselves to renew ourselves. We must let go to just remain.
Change is too often stuck in value judgments ( as this post may also seem!). Let’s not judge change from the lens of betrayal and blasphemy. Every change must be in support of preservation and growth. Even if barks have to change. And our relationships remain deeper as mine with this tree.
