#WhoseWebIsIt?

Organisations are at one level a web of personal relationships: some sweet, some sour. Some real solid; others floundering. One of the biggest challenges is to work through this mosaic. People who may be very skilled and relevant to the organisation may just not connect. It is not always about jealousy, rivalry and oneupmanship. Sometimes it is just the inability to understand each others’ psychographic make up.

We are all so wired differently. We have different excitement triggers, different fears, varying interests. Or maybe it is just the tone of the voice or the non-verbal expressions. Unfortunately, the left brain bias in companies believes it is all about tasks. In the process the ability to work through the more difficult task of understanding human behaviour is easily cast aside as “ flaky” because most of us don’t know how to deal with it.

If only relationship dysfunctionalities were better understood and squarely addressed a lot of energy in teams would not be lost. The price of rough relationships is beyond imagination.

Likewise, the value of great relationships are a treasure. It is not about the fear of group think; it is more the possibility of trust, honest debates. The gains to the firm are limitless if only we practised #AppreciativeInquiry

What are we losing today that could become huge gains tomorrow? Each of us has so much to make or break the web.
