30 Day Challenge - Day 2
It’s the second day of the challenge. Its been more than 36 hours since I last consumed any video content. No unboxing videos from Unbox Therapy, no Netflix and no re-runs of the This Is Your Next videos from Verge talking about gadgets that I shall never buy. After work I spent a good amount of time listening to podcasts yesterday. A podcast about Charka and the ancient medicine of India called Ayurveda. I listened to BBC’s coverage of the most important snippets of news for the day. I also managed to finish one hour of SQL training. Something that I had delayed for more than a month citing work as an excuse and then I turned in early. Sleeping peacefully for definitely more than my usual 5 hours and less than the tired sleeping of 10+ hours on weekends.
Today is a holiday in India. It is the Republic Day. The day when we finally got a constitution to call our own. Laws, some old some new to guide a diverse country forward into a new millenia. And the biggest of all its a holiday at work too. I have a massive list of things to do that I plan to tackle today but I am also very sure that a large portion of the day is going to be spent in bed trying to read books. I use the term trying because in today’s world of instant gratification, short content and even a shorter attention span, I will have to consciously make an effort to pay attention to the tasks I am doing as my mind decides to wander on its own. I have also planned a bike ride which seems more and more implausible given the crippling cold of winter in Delhi. But I will try again in the afternoon when there is a modicum of warmth in the air.
I will spend some time calling up friends and some time actually focusing on the tasks at hand. The whole exercise to stay away from the videos seems to be underlining the amount of time I waste watching what other people produce without actually ever using the learnings that I get from the videos, if any. Its going to be a tough day and a tougher week but I feel that if I make it through the week then I will be in a much better position and ofcourse I am praying that my attention span will be longer.
Till later!
