Choice In All Things

We always have a choice.

In everything and every day, we choose what we do and who we will be. We might not like the consequences of a certain choice, but the choice still is there and still must be made.

As always, when attempting to explain a complex moral argument, I return to the wellspring of my philosophical thought: animated movies and comic books.

THE IRON GIANT is a fantastic movie. The titular Giant is a weapon, made to destroy, but it chooses a different path.

The Giant says, “I am not a gun.” With that, the Giant chooses the pathway that most fits his aspirational self. He chooses to act with his rational calculator brain. He chooses the right thing, rather than the easy thing.

How often have you been faced with a choice and tried to tell yourself that you HAD to be mean, that you had no choice.

There’s no time for that sort of rationalization any more. The world is too cold and hard already. If you have the choice, why would you choose to make the world a worse place? What do you say we all choose to do each other a solid. Make the right choice.

We always have a choice.

Choose wisely.
