Why I started Players Coach

About 2.5 years ago I was running on the treadmill in the gym of my apartment thinking of what I really wanted to do with my life. At the time I was living in Houston working for PepsiCo. By all accounts my life was good. Great company, Great Pay, Benefits, Black graduate, former athlete in a competitive corporate setting. What more could I want?

My collegiate experience really shaped and help solidify who I am as a person. Everything I do, I do with passion and a smile. I work extremely hard to accomplish my goals, and I love helping others succeed! I went to the University of Washington as a 6–1, 250lbs offensive lineman. Not your prototypical lineman. But I believed in myself and I knew I would and could outwork everyone at my position until I was one of the 5 best guys. In my 3rd year on the team, I finally got to the point where I felt, and more importantly the film showed, I was arguably a top 5 guy. After a coaching change, the new coaching staff saw in me what I saw in myself leading to me becoming a 2-year starter and a 2-year scholarship recipient.

Walking on at UW, earning playing time and a degree was an experience that I wouldn’t change! Seeing as the stats for black young men aren’t the greatest, I am humbled to be in a position to make a positive impact on my community.

Sports + Education = Opportunities

I truly believe if it wasn’t for my ability to play high school football at a high level I would have never attended Washington and earned my degree and participate in collegiate sports.

I started Players Coach to help athletes of all socioeconomic background improve their game so they can reach for ambitious opportunities that help pay for their education.

I will judge the success of Players Coach by the number of scholarships we help facilitates. No other KPI matters to me as much as this one does! The more educated people the better we are a society, and the more opportunities these individuals can create for others.
