Master blaster Chris Gayle hefts another delivery beyond the boundary.

Its been a thrilling regular season to the big bash with no innings more exciting than Chris Gayle’s rapid fire fifty in the final regular season game. There have been some highlights in almost every single match and we have been fortunate enough to see some great exponents of T20 batting with one player compiling over 300 runs for the tournament whilst 16 more piled on totals over 200.

  1. Chris Lynn (Brisbane Heat) — The unquestionable star of BBL 05 lead the total runs scored, as well as the most sixes hit by comfortable margins. Carried the Heat for the first half of the season almost single handedly.
  2. Travis Head (Adelaide Strikers) — A superb tournament from the young man from South Australia, highlighted by his unlikely ton against the Sixers at the expense of fellow up and comer Sean Abbott.
  3. Chris Gayle (Melbourne Renegades) — Courted plenty of controversy but made his impact on the pitch, none more so than his magnificent record equalling 12 ball half century against the Strikers in the final game of the regular season.
  4. Michael Hussey (Sydney Thunder) — Mr Cricket more than lived up to his name, and it was no coincidence that when he was missing in action was the time the Thunder struggled the most, will be a dangerous player come finals cricket.
  5. George Bailey (Hobart Hurricanes) — Similar to Chris Lynn, fought an almost lone hand in some of the Hurricanes early games, was then called up to international duty which may have stranded him a little lower on these rankings than he may have otherwise achieved.
  6. Aaron Finch (Melbourne Renegades) — Like Bailey was starting to hit some solid form leading the Renegades before a call up to international action.
  7. Luke Wright (Melbourne Stars) — The second of five imports in the top 10, started the tournament slowly but come the mid point hit his stride like the super star he is, showing exactly why the Stars have kept him on board for five consecutive campaigns.
  8. Michael Lumb (Sydney Sixers) — Another Englishman who similar to others in this list swung above expectations and lead the batting attack for his side, needs more support if his side is to threaten in the future.
  9. Andre Russell (Sydney Thunder) — The West Indian superstar, does everything a threatening bowler, an impressive fielder and an explosive batsman. Scored almost 200 runs at the unbelievable strike rate of 192.31.
  10. Dwayne Bravo (Melbourne Renegades) — The third of the Caribbean crusaders to feature here, racked up just over 200 runs at a strike rate of 160+ and many times was the decisive factor in totals posted by the men in Red.
  11. Brad Hodge (Adelaide Strikers)
  12. Brad Haddin (Sydney Sixers)
  13. Shane Watson (Sydney Thunder)
  14. Michael Klinger (Perth Scorchers)
  15. Cameron White (Melbourne Renegades)
  16. Tim Paine (Hobart Hurricanes)
  17. Shaun Marsh (Perth Scorchers)
  18. Tim Ludeman (Adelaide Strikers)
  19. Kevin Pietersen (Melbourne Stars)
  20. Usman Khawaja (Sydney Thunder)
Luke Wright (7th) in action for the Melbourne Stars
