Cat

You are in all my close places
You do not announce your visit
Or tell me of your intentions
You arrive uninvited
And stay beyond your welcome
You are like a cat
As selfish
As indifferent
You come and go as you please
I no longer know if you will be in my bed at night
Or gone before the sunrise
Your presence is as intangible as morning mist
And infinitely less reliable
I can no longer live with the uncertainty
The hope
The crush of disappointment
I have thrown away the food bowls
And boarded up my emotional cat-flap
