An Interview is a methodology used by people either to know their opinion on something or to understand the thought process of the person being interviewed. This is how an interviewer judges you and checks if you are suitable for the particular job.

When going for an interview, it’s important that you know about the company that you are interviewing for. Some key things are, the name of the founder, the year it was established, current market value, company motto — if any! One must also prepare for questions that might be asked and PRACTICE is key.

Some frequently asked questions in the games industry are:
1. Why do you want to work here?
2. What kind of games do you play?
3. How would you make the games you play better?
4. What are your strengths? etc.

It’s also imperative that you dress well for the interview. The first impression is the last impression. Before you answer any questions about your skills, you have already been judged on your appearance and clothing. The prospective employer should that you have taken care to look your best because you care about the interview.

When the interview panel is asking questions, they really are interested in knowing stuff other than just directly answering to any question they asked. Each question they ask has a secret meaning.

When I was interviewing for the position of ‘Database Manager’ in Philips, they asked a few questions and after a few weeks into the job, I asked my boss what they actually look for. They said,

For example, When they ask “Tell me about yourself

What they are really saying is — They want to hear you talk. So use that time to talk about yourself as much as possible.

“What was the most difficult situation you have faced and how did you tackle it?”

The panel is trying to find out what’s your take on the definition of hard and if you can show a logical and calm approach to try and solve the problem! Here, you need to explain the problem, the options you had and end it with a positive outcome.

“What are your weaknesses”

The panel is really asking about your self-perception and self-awareness. Never say — ‘I don’t have any weaknesses’. This will guarantee that you have some issues going on with you. The smart thing to do here is to tell about some weakness, that you know is not a part of your job description and the steps you are taking to get over it.

I can give you many more examples of what they look for in a person interviewing for a job. To conclude, the basic thing to understand here is that, the interviewee should be well prepared, Have mock interview sessions with your friends or family, Work on your body postures, Look neat and sharp, Be confident and answer smart!
