The Songs of the Birds

Dreams playing through stars

Awaken to flight

Morn’s sounds scatter far

These shadows of night

The songs of the birds

Accompany dews

Their chorus refers

To mercies renewed

Sweet chirpings describe

Breathtaking arrays

Of color and light,

Celestial displays

E’en sunless sunrise

Cannot mask the aires;

A heav’nly delight

These winged marvels share

Gilt greenery grows

And turns lifted heads

To bask in warm notes

Wherever they spread

At closing of day

A grateful reprise

Again sings its way

T’ward glorious skies

While waters reflect

The same Majesty

Which rose to direct

This grand symphony

Creation began

With worship earth’s heard

Sustained by God’s hand

Through songs of the birds
