Virtual Gallery Showcase — Pigeon Island & the Guild Trading Co.
Virtual galleries are not exclusive to Web3; companies have been leveraging the internet to showcase products and artists have been creating their own websites to highlight their art for years.
What Web3 enables, however, is interactive experiences and a new way to purchase digital assets through DeFi (Decentralized Finance).
This week, we wanted to show our developments in the Virtual Gallery space, ranging from one of our first Web3 applications to our most recent.
Pigeon Island was first created in late 2021, and allowed users to see our Pigeons in flight. Here, our Pigeons fly around, and clicking on one will take you to its OpenSea page.
This was our first jab at a virtual gallery (and learnings here allowed for updates in our new Gallery), but Pigeon Island has its own unique properties:
- Pigeons fly powered by an AI model known as the ‘boids’ simulation, which was created to model the flocking behaviour of birds (we thought, given the context, this couldn’t be more fitting!)
- Personal versions of Pigeon Island were available, showing off only your Pigeons, by pasting your ETH address at the end of the website URL.
- Collaboration opportunities were created, by allowing other bird-based projects to be flying alongside our Pigeons!
While Pigeon Island was incredibly fun to build and showcase, it was difficult to support other artists and creators through. As such, we worked on a new solution.
Released in Summer 2022, our Guild Trading Co. is our next-generation metaverse gallery and marketplace.
The Guild has primarily been used to present other projects to a wider audience, and we have leveraged the Guild for a number of collaboration opportunities. Some unique properties of the Guild include:
- The ability to travel seamlessly through virtual environments through our ‘Portals’
- Embedded, ‘one-touch’ purchasing: by hitting the buttons on any available NFT, the purchase option will appear directly within the experience.
- Unique utility for our token, $VIVE, while supporting other creators at the same time.
- Minting can also be conducted, such as our Eggs and NFT Booster Packs.
- Custom contracts can be implemented, apart from our current sale & mint contracts, you might see some new ones in action soon ;)
- Freely move around the space (I often find myself running around in circles)
Galleries are an amazing way to showcase work of oneself and other artists’ within the ecosystem. We’re continuously looking for new projects to work with and to bring into the Guild. If you’re interested in taking part, reach out to us via DM!
Part of our longer-term vision around the Guild and metaverse opportunities is to create an infrastructure for others to create their own interactive galleries with various features across a range of smart contracts.
How to Join our Ecosystem
By holding our NFTs and playing their respective P2E games (Flappy Pigeon or Eggsplorer), or by being active in our Discord [LINK], you will be able to earn our utility token $VIVE. $VIVE can currently be used to purchase NFT Booster Packs, but will also have additional utilities both within and outside our metaverse experiences; examples of potential utilities include (but are not limited to) digital land, assets, and cosmetics.
