I can’t say I know enough of canon vs non-canon. Found this link with arguments back and forth. Here is definitely an interest in making her canon. The back story (which I now know) calls for boy for Luke and girl for Leia so they’d have to go against that. There was another link that spoke about a story group that is determining what becomes canon and how much of expanded universe gets made into canon.
