But why must a professional pretend (and we all know these guys are pretending) a humiliating, painful loss is anything but exactly what it is?

In my opinion you can be humiliated but be humble. The professional has taken up that mantle and it’s their choice how to present themselves. I would prefer my kids see someone lose with grace than win with cockiness. Cam has the opportunity to be great in an all around manner, not just at the game. But he needs to exemplify greatness. And that means knowing how to lose and how to put up with the guy next door talking smack. The NBA and NFL are too much about the show and not the substance. Cam is young and you know he didn’t expect that outcome. I think it was a learning experience so the only question is will he learn.
