The author herself has stated that the article was not written for men, and that makes sense since nowhere in it does she address men in general directly. The piece is not an accusation thrown your way, or my way, or any man’s way.

It’s not even about the door in particular, as the author repeatedly states. There’s not a single sentence that asks for men to open more doors, or open less doors, because that’s not what it is about. It’s not about asking you or anyone to do X or Y. And it certainly isn’t about putting the blame on anyone, certainly not you or me. It’s about understanding the perspective of another human being, as simple as that. So stop making this about you, because you‘re clearly not listening if you can’t even grasp that.
