What is a video wlal? The name of video wall seems to be very strange to some people. But if you are keen-sighted, you will find video walls have ever come into your sight, in the Police Station, Stock Exchanges, product release meeting, college lecture and convention.

Part 1. The differences between LCD video wall and LED video wall


A video wall is made of several LCD/LED display cubes and arranged in order with one next to another, for example 2X2 or 3X3, 4X4, MXN video wall. Based on different requirements, video wall can display a big singe image with all cubes composing one image. Compared with traditional projector to present a big image, it displays clearer image with high resolution, high contrast and enough brightness. And control room video wall can be spliced into several images, a 2X2 video wall with 4 different images displayed. This special feature makes video wall display far beyond traditional projectors. The video wall is basically a display cube. This cube is composed by a DLP projector and a screen to output the signal. And the DLP projector, the core of the display cube, controls the brightness, accuracy and resolution. That’s why video wall has diffferent prices.

Both LED and LCD are liquid crystal display cube with the same technology, and LED display is in fact the subnet of LCD display. The biggest difference is the light. LED display uses light emitting diodes as the light source while LCD display uses fluorescent lights as the light source. Another difference bettwen LCD and LED is the placement of the lights. The LCD fluorescent lights are always placed behind the screen, diffferently light emitting diodes can be placed either behind the screen or around the edges, which explains why LED displays are often thinner than LCD displays. Because of the lights, LED display with light emitting diodes is more energy-saving, clearer image compared with LCD displays. But something you should not forget is that light emitting diodes are much more expensive at prices. Recent technique enables LCD display development to adopt LED backlight as the light source, greatly solved the image display difference. This technique has been widely applied.

Part 2: Video wall software and video wall controller


Also a video wall control software is something like your site background to manage the content and display of your site. With the video wall control software, users can determine how to display the input signals just like how you like to display your site. Almost all video wall suppiers will develop their own video wall software to control the system. Once you ordered the video wall system, the supplier will provide free video wall software and user manual. Some video wall supplier will also mention if their video wall system supports open source video wall software. If not, you should use their own video wall software.

Video wall display cube is the output terminal of the whole video wall control system and video wall controller,the control center server, is a must in order to make use of this system. Video wall controller is also named as video wall processor. Different videl wall suppliers will name it as video wall controller or video wall processor. Let’s take an example, you have a website and the site data is stored on the server. When people visited your site and the server sends out and process the data to finally display the site on the computer of the visitor. The video wall controller is the server to store the data signal from sources like your cameras, computers, video recorders, and DVR.


Part 3: How to Make a video wall


  • Step 1: You must decide what’s the purpose of the video wall. Most people are using video wall for monitoring.
  • Step 2: Let’s take video wall monitoring for example. You have to prepare for the video wall equipments: one computer, 4 CCTV cameras, video wall controller, at least 2X2(4 LED/LCD video wall cubes) displays, video wall accessories(including video wall mount, video wall plates, video wall stand, videl wall switch, video wall bracket and so on.You’d better inquiry the supplier for whole video wall control system equipment.
  • Step 3: Set up the cameras and hook up to the video wall controller.
  • Step 4: Connect the video wall controller to video wall display HMDI port.
  • Step 5: Connect the video wal controller to a computer.
  • Step 6: Intall the original videl control software on the computer and go to the main interface.
  • Step 7: Use the video wall softare user manual to control the display.
